“The Oldest & Largest Black Newspaper in East Texas”

The Ebony News Journal was established in January 1993 and began as a monthly publication. It was founded because of the need of the larger African American population to become more informed about issues facing the community. For years, Black leaders and businesspeople expressed the desire for a common, consistent publication that could also serve as a networking tool for the African American consumer. Expansion took place quickly in those first few years, with the paper going from a monthly to a bi-weekly newspaper in September of 1998.
Primary Targeted Areas
Although editions of the Ebony News Journal may be seen all over the East Texas region, our current targeted areas are the metropolitan areas of Tyler and Longview. More than 53 churches and businesses in the Black community receive copies of the ENJ bi-weekly and support the paper through their own advertisements and announcements on a consistent basis. High traffic areas carry the ENJ in our own racks, upon their counters and in space provided by retailers and businesses.
